You want to start magnet fishing, and the first thing you wonder is ‘What fishing magnet do I need?’ What am I doing right and what should I pay attention to when I buy one? You quickly find out during your search that there is a huge range of fishing magnets and accessories. Help! Eventually you can't see the wood for the trees because of all the different types of fishing magnets. In this blog we will give you a clear overview of the different types of fishing magnets available.

Fortunately, there are only three types of fishing magnets

It is true there is a wide range of different types of fishing magnets. They come in many shapes and sizes, yet there are only three suitable types of fishing magnets for magnet fishing. We will go through the three types of fishing magnets, indicating the product characteristics with their advantages and disadvantages. After reading this article, you will have a much better sense of which fishing magnet suits you best. Do you have a question about the pulling power of fishing magnets? Check out our blog about the pulling power of fishing magnets. Still have questions after reading this? Ask your question via the contact form.

Type 1 : Single-sided fish magnet/Classic fish magnet

The name Classic says it all. This was the first fishing magnet in our range and has more than proven itself over all these years! The single-sided fishing magnet/Classic fishing magnet consists of a round magnet with a steel housing around the magnet. On top of the metal housing is a protrusion with internal thread where the eye of the magnet is screwed on. The magnetic fishing line is attached to this eye. There are also magnet suppliers who sell magnets without the protrusion, which is a cost saving choice. With the protrusion the production costs are higher. To attach the eye securely you can use locking glue.

There are different fishing magnet types. For example the single-sided magnets

Advantages:

  • Very robust, protected by housing so suitable for rough waters with stones
  • Easy to clean
  • Retention of tractive force
  • Long-life magnet
  • Extremely strong, high peak pull on flat metal objects
  • Easy to store and carry
  • Wide range of five different tensile strengths

Disadvantages:

  • Magnetic on one side, trapping chance reduced
  • Without locking glue, the eye can unscrew

Double-sided fishing magnet / Bulldog fishing magnet

In 2017, we designed the first double-sided fishing magnets under the name Bulldog. The name double-sided actually says it all – the magnet is “double-sided” magnetic and thus has a magnetic surface on two sides. The magnet consists of a housing containing two magnets. The magnets are placed so that there is a good distribution with the magnetic poles. By properly placing the magnets, the two magnets reinforce each other. We proudly offer two types of Bulldog magnets, namely the Bulldog 500 and Bulldog 800. Both magnets have two eyes to attach the rope. So with this magnet you can choose to fish both horizontally and vertically.

There are different fishing magnet types. For example the double-sided magnet.

Advantages:

  • Two magnetic surfaces, greater catch probability
  • Choice of mounting from two eyes, “horizontal and vertical fishing”
  • Very robust, protected by housing so suitable for rough waters with stones
  • Easy to clean
  • Long-life magnet
  • Can be used while boating “drag magnet” “horizontal fishing”
  • Extremely strong, high peak pull on flat metal objects
  • Easy to store and carry
  • Always magnetic surface facing bottom

Disadvantages:

  • Choosing which eye to attach the rope to
  • Lower pulling power when fishing horizontally
  • Two models

All-round fishing magnets

Developments at Magnetar never stand still. The latest innovation in the field of fishing magnets are our all-round fishing magnets. These are fishing magnets with a pulling force on all sides of the magnet. They are also called 360° magnets. Because the magnet is magnetic on all sides, the chance of catching increases enormously. The pull of these magnets is also a lot further than the single-sided and double-sided magnets, because no steel is used here. The magnets are 100% made of magnetic material and can be protected with our “non-magnetic stainless steel protective covers“. All magnets from the Exclusive line – the The Easy, The Hardcore, The Terror, The Beast, and The Barbarian are all-round fishing magnets.

There are different fishing magnet types. For example the allround magnet.

Advantages:

  • Huge pulling power
  • Very high capture probability 360° magnetic
  • Long-life magnet
  • Extremely strong on round, flat but also rusty objects
  • Magnetic surface always directed towards the object to be caught
  • Can be used while boating
  • Wide range of five different pulling forces

Disadvantages:

  • Awkward to clean
  • Awkward to transport “tremendously strong”
  • Protective cover needed to limit damage
  • With protective cover 90% protected from damage

Ferrite magnets

Just skip and don’t buy. These are a replacement for neodymium magnets and are made as a cheap alternative. Ferrite magnets are 10 times less powerful than the neodymium we use. You can recognize ferrite magnets by the black underside.
